Phuoc Thanh Bakery — Richmond, Melbourne
Description
A Richmond institution baking since 1999
Phuoc Thanh opened its original Victoria Street bakery in 1999 and has spent more than two decades refining a focused Vietnamese bakery format. Baguettes are baked through the day, pâté is made in house and the menu moves from traditional pork to grilled chicken, grilled pork and the especially popular crispy pork.
What to order
Crispy pork brings together crackling, soft meat, fried shallot, spring onion and a sweet-savoury sauce against the cool vegetables. Traditional pork is the better first order if you want to judge the bread, pâté, cold cuts, herbs and pickles without the richer roast filling taking over.
Good to know
The original shop is close to Hung’s Bakery, making Victoria Street one of Melbourne’s easiest two-stop bánh mì comparisons. The surrounding strip is rich in Vietnamese restaurants and grocers, so build in time beyond the sandwich counters. Menus, prices and hours can change; confirm directly before a long journey.
Neighbourhood: Richmond, inner east
Best for: house-made pâté, fresh bread and an established crispy-pork style.
